I’ve always loved the lighting of the dutch masters. I used to watch Cinematographers and think they had such an amazing understanding of lighting. Then I found out that everyone I admired, loved art, studied art even self studied. So, I started to look with different eyes.
Another portrait influenced by dutch period.
One thing I did notice was the only subjects who could afford portraits to be painted were Royalty, Elite and clergy. Not many brown faces so I thought it would be interesting to shoot.
A Sri Lankan cosplayer this time playing Harley Quinn. I have tried to imagine a film poster when taking this shot. The Cosplayer played the character really well when it came to the unhinged look in the very dangerous ‘Harley Quinn’.
I got to know and talk to an ever growing community of Cosplayers in Sri Lanka. It was great to see young people express themselves in such a cinematic way. All hand made from costumes to make up.
This Cosplayer’s favourite character is Pin Head. Everything is completely hand made with all the nails made from plastics cotton wool bud stems with putty for the heads.
This is Oshitha and one of the many Cosplayers who are very active in the Cosplay world. The Cosplay community has been growing year on year for the past 5 years and even getting recognised by Wonder Women herself , ‘Gal Godot’.
